1. Start With a Thorough Rinse

Before using soap, rinse the entire vehicle from top to bottom.

This helps loosen dirt, dust, mud, and other debris before you begin washing. Pay extra attention to the lower portions of the vehicle, wheel wells, and behind the tires where grime tends to collect.

Removing the loose dirt first also makes the rest of the wash more effective.

2. Work From the Top Down

Gravity is your friend.

Start with the roof and windows, then move down to the hood, doors, rear of the vehicle, and lower body panels.

If you start at the bottom, dirty water can run back over areas you have already cleaned. Working from the top down helps keep the process organized and prevents unnecessary re-washing.

3. Give Bugs and Heavy Grime Extra Attention

The front bumper, grille, mirrors, windshield, and lower panels usually need a little more work.
